Mashup Monday...With A Twist

Monday after Monday, I post a video featuring two or more tracks that are cleverly mashed together.

Today, I thought I would mix it up a bit.  What happens when someone takes a song, and mixes it with a cleverly remixed group of film clips?  You get JY Cinemashups.

JY Cinemashups is the name behind a 36 year old American who is brilliant...BRILLIANT...when it comes to finding the relationships between a song and a film.  The result is often times moving and downright inspiring to watch.

For example, this is 'Kill Billy', a mashup of 'Kill Bill' with Billy Joel's 'She's Always a Woman'.  Simply breathtaking...

Compare that to 'Fist Club', which brings together David Fincher's masterpiece 'Fight Club', with Florence & The Machine's 'Kiss with a Fist'.

Am I right?!  Brilliant!

Great New Internet Meme - "Helpful Tyler Durden"

Okay.  This meme isn't exactly "new".  It has actually been around for a little more than six months, as best as I can tell.  When it comes to meme's it's one hell of an interesting concept.

If you have seen 'Fight Club', or have read Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name, then you're quite familiar with Tyler Durden.  He is one of the few iconic male characters in the last 20 years.  His perspective of the world made you question yourself, and your place within it.

Think of "Helpful Tyler Durden" as having members of Project Mayhem making an impact on people's lives on an individual level, much like the scene where Tyler decides to rob the liquor store, takes the clerk into the back alley, and puts a gun to his head.  Instead of pulling the trigger, he takes the clerk's ID, and asks Raymond (the clerk) what he wants to do with his life.  He replies that he wants to be a veterinarian.
Tyler: I know who you are and where you live Raymond, if you're not on your way to becoming a veterinarian in 3 weeks I will find you and kill you. Now go home...
Raymond runs away, in tears.
Tyler: "Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of Raymond K. Hessel's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever tasted."
Below are some of my favorite "Helpful Tyler Durden" posts, of the dozens I've seen.  By far, the best one is the very last.  So true.  Enjoy.

Video: Extended Trailer For 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' (NSFW)

Over the weekend, MGM released an extended trailer for the American release of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'.  By extended, I mean, coming in at nearly four minutes.

It's blatantly obvious after watching the trailer that David Fincher was the perfect director for the film.  After 'Se7en', and 'Fight Club', 'Tattoo' is right up his alley.  Heck, if he can make Facebook suspenseful, think of what he can do with this.

And I see another Oscar for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the score.  Just listen.

'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' is in theaters on December 21st, according to IMDB.  But, according to this poster, it's the 26th.

Filmography 2010

With the Academy Award nominations coming out tomorrow morning, I thought it would be fun to post one of my favorite viral videos in recent months.  'Filmography 2010' compiles clips from 270, yes 270, theatrical releases from 2010 edited together into a six minute and three second clip.  The video is edited together so beautifully and seamlessly, that even the bad movies looked like they were worth seeing.

The filmmaker?  A young, female, aspiring filmmaker that goes by the name of Genrocks.  Her Youtube channel has a number of trailer re-edits on it.  My favorite:  The "sexy" trailer for 'The Watchmen'.  Pretty funny.  Enjoy 'Filmography 2010'.  It's fucking brilliant.

Looking at her Youtube channel, I love her take on 'Fight Club'.  From a girl's perspective, making it an alternate music video for Britney Spears' 'Circus'.  It's not my taste in music, but it's incredibly smart:

Becoming Jared Leto

For those of you who don't know who Jared Leto is, he is the lead singer of 30 Seconds To Mars and was the cute blond guy in Fight Club.  This guy:

Now, I don't know why a girl would suddenly get the idea "Hey, I think I can become Jared Leto". Maybe someone told her she sorta looked like him.  Would that be an insult or a compliment?  Edward Norton said in Fight Club that he wanted to destroy something beautiful.  It looks like she wanted to create something beautiful.  This video is shocking.
