Lady Gaga Shows Off Her Culo For 'Culo' (NSFW)

For the bilingually challenged, "culo" means "ass" in Spanish.

It's also the title of a new coffee table book which is being released tomorrow.  A collaboration between photographer Raphael Mazzucco and Interscope Records Chairman Jimmy Iovine, the project is a 248 page opus to the female tushy.  It measures nearly 14 by 10 inches (about the area of a larger sized laptop), and retails for $65.00.

The tagline for the book is, "The world is no longer flat".  And, by the looks of things, Interscope is promoting the daylights out of it's impending release.

The question I have to ask though, is "Is this art or softcore porn?".

I'm all for erotic art.  In fact Jessi and I own a number of books which feature either erotic or pin-up photography.  But, based upon the way that they are advertising the book, it's obvious that their target market is not the part of the community that appreciates artistic expression.  They're advertising to the lowest common denominator.  They're selling ass.  Don't get me wrong.  It's some very lovely ass, but they're marketing it under the guise of art.  The entire marketing campaign, even the name of the book, cheapens it's contents.  They're marketing a coffee table book to a demographic who, for the most part, doesn't have coffee tables.

From what I have read, the book even features a number of celebrities that agreed to be photographed, specifically for the book.  Included in the list of famous derrieres is Lady Gaga:

If not for that ridiculous "monster claw" bullshit she's doing, it would be a very nice picture.

Personally, I think it's a very lovely photo, though I have a couple of critiques.  First, with her panties still showing, it looks a bit trashy.  Second, put away that fucking monster claw!!!  Otherwise, this photo would have made a much better cover to the 'Born This Way' album than what was actually chosen.  She has quite a delightful backside.

"Zombie Boy" Rick Genest "Covers" Up For Dermablend

Rick Genest has quickly become the world's most popular male model.  Since appearing in designer Thierry Mugler's menswear show in January, he was instantly recognizable.  It's easy to see why...

In the following months, Rick has gained notoriety as an inspiration of sorts to Lady Gaga, making a featured appearance in her 'Born This Way' video.

It appears that "Zombie Boy" is branching out in his modeling endeavors lately.  A video has surfaced in the last week starring Genest, that is a departure from his normal modeling work.  In fact, if you didn't know any better, you would initially think that this commercial was filmed before he had any tattoos.  Take a look.

The brand is called Dermablend.  They currently offer three products:  a leg and body primer, a leg and body cover and a setting powder.  It appears to be a three step/layered process.  Each piece of the puzzle costs between $22 and $27.  Altogether for the set, you're looking at about $74.

In 2011, everyone has a tattoo.  Some people are able to hide them.  Others of us simply can't due to the size or location of their artwork.  While many of us cringe at the notion of having to cover up at work, we all know too well how difficult it is to find a decent paying job in today's economy.  

Other cosmetic companies have attempted to market their own "tattoo concealer", and have had little success.    Two years ago, Sephora introduced a product that was modeled by Kat Von D.  Photos later surfaced of Kat wearing the makeup, without a substantial amount of Photoshopping.

On the surface (no pun intended), Dermablend seems to be the real deal.  According to Dermablend's site, their team used four 3.4 ounce tubes of leg and body cover to conceal his artwork.  The entire process was filmed in one take. 

Genest is taking advantage of the avenues that this cosmetic process is affording him.  Earlier this month, using the Dermablend products, makeup artists were able to create a "Zombie Boy 2.0" if you will, for a layout in Schön! Magazine.  The results were stunning.

Going beyond the cover, indeed.  What a beautiful man.

Watch President Obama's Speech To The Human Rights Campaign (Video)

Last night, President Obama spoke at the 15th Annual National Dinner of the Human Rights Campaign.  The Human Rights Campaign has been on the front lines of the battle field for LGBT rights in recent years, and the President's comments at last night's dinner were highly anticipated.  The most often asked question leading up to his speech was, "Would he officially endorse marriage equality?".

While I'll discuss the specifics of his speech in greater detail tomorrow, I thought I would post the video of it this evening for those who were interested in watching.  For some reason, the video and audio are out of sync.  I apologize.

Joe Solmonese, the President of the HRC, delivered a wonderful introduction to President Obama.  Obama, for his part, started things off on the right foot by saying,

"I also took a trip out to California last week, where I held some productive, bi-lateral talks with your leader: Lady Gaga.  She was wearing 16 inch heels.  She was eight feet tall!"

Video: Rick Perry: "Save A Pretzel For The Gas Jets"

Texas governor, and Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry has garnered a reputation recently for fumbling during the debates.  He is developing a tendency of losing focus as the night goes on, and inevitably, putting his foot in his mouth.  Some say he's not ready for the office of Commander in Chief.  I think he's "Dubya ver. 2.0".

The clever folks at Bad Lip Reading have compiled a number of clips of Perry speaking on various topics.  They have taken out the original audio, and have replaced it with what it looks like he would be saying if you were reading his lips.  Sadly, I think some of these quotes could eventually be actual sound bites, if not for Perry's handlers.



Personally, my favorite Bad Lip Reading video is a song with Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Jay-Z.  It's about pizza and broccoli.  Quite funny to hear Jay-Z rapping about ten pounds of peanut brittle.

'Edge Of Glory'

I've become a bit tired of talking about Lady Gaga on this website.  She's run her course.  I saw this video, though, and had to share it.  It certainly speaks to the "glory" part of the song, if you ask me.

Spend 15 Minutes On This Lady Gaga Update...Before Her 15 Minutes Are Up

Tic tock, tic tock.  The clock is quickly running out on Lady Gaga's popularity and relevance in the music industry.  As her publicity stunts become more and more grandiose and outlandish, even many of her "Little Monsters" (me included) are saying, "Whatever", and turning the channel.

Gaga has seemed to appear so often in the news over the last two weeks, that you would think she was running as a Republican candidate for President of the United States.  Sadly, most of what she has been saying to the media has been just as insane as some of the sound bytes from Donald Trump in recent weeks.

Here comes the crazy train....Whoo Whoo!

According to an interview in 'Harper's Bazaar', appearing on shelves on April 26, these spiky things on her face and shoulders are "her bones".  That's right.  She "grew" them.

"The only tense part of our conversation occurs when I try to transition her fantasy into reality, asking about the new look--a series of sharp bones that protrude from Gaga's shoulders, cheekbones, and temples. How long does it take to apply the makeup and prosthetics to her face and arms?

"Well, first of all," she says, "they're not prosthetics. They're my bones."

Okay, so when did the bones appear?

"They've always been inside of me, but I have been waiting for the right time to reveal to the universe who I truly am."

Did she will them to come out for this album?

"They come out when I'm inspired."

Is she worried that this new look will inspire other people to "grow" similar bones?

"We all have these bones!" she says tersely. "They're the light from inside of us.""

Then, late last week, Gaga's new single 'Judas' was "leaked" onto Youtube, by Lady Gaga.  Question:  How is it possible for a track to be leaked by the artist that recorded it?  Wouldn't the appropriate term be released?  Anyway, I provided a link.  I'm not going to put it on my post.  It's unlistenable.  It sounds like what you would expect from 'Bad Romance 2.0' minus anything that made 'Bad Romance' catchy or worth five minutes of your time.

She also announced that she was going to release the video for the track, in which she was going to be playing Mary Magdalene, on Easter Sunday.  Of course, this was a cry for attention, and she received it.  Catholic groups all over the nation immediately took to every news show in the nation to decry the blasphemy that is about to take place in less than 36 hours.  Hey, I can understand blaspheming.  Especially when it's targeted toward a religious demographic that you feel screwed you over at some point in your life.  But this is just a ploy for media exposure.

I am liking some of the Youtube reactions, though.  There is one in particular from some Christian girl/Bieber fan that seems to have her facts all wrong.  She claims that Judas is another name for Jesus (wrong).  She also says that in the 'Bad Romance' video, Gaga was wearing an upside down cross, was having sex with women, and burned crosses in the video (unless there was an edit that played on MTV 7, all wrong).  She then starts crying, and thinks she's going to go to hell for hearing the song, calls Lady Gaga "Lady Gay Gay", then freaks out when she realizes that the song is going to end up on the radio.  It's hilarious.



You should also see her crying fit/online suicide note when Justin Bieber didn't win the Best New Artist Grammy.  She thinks the Chinese kids voted for Esperanza Spalding, and actually willed all of her Bieber souvenirs back to Justin Bieber.  It's epic, to say the least.

Speaking of epic, Weird Al Yankovic, the pioneer of parody, wrote a song based off of Gaga's 'Born This Way'.  It's called 'Perform This Way'.  He asked for permission from Gaga to do the song, and her people asked for a completed track for them to listen to before they would give him a decision.  It was the first time that any artist has made such a request in his 30 year career.

He submitted the song to Lady Gaga, and got flatly denied.  So, he decided to distribute the song on Youtube as "fair use".  He also posted a message on his blog, stating that if the single had been approved and released, all proceeds would have gone to the Human Rights Campaign.  Soon, even NPR got involved in the story.  Come to find out, Lady Gaga had no knowledge that Yankovic was recording a parody, or had even asked for permission.  Her manager had made the decision, without even hearing the track.  Here is the track in question.  It's quite funny.



The single is available on ITunes on Monday.  I can't wait to see the video.

'Born This Way' made news in other ways this week.  In an interview with NME magazine, Gaga was asked about the similarities between 'Born This Way', and Madonna's 'Express Yourself'.  I've noticed it.  Her fans notice it.  Evidently, Madonna has noticed it.  Gaga hasn't.  Here is an excerpt from the interview:

"A bit of it does sound quite a lot like ‘Express Yourself’, though, doesn’t it? 

“I don’t think… I swear to you. I am not stupid enough to put out a record and be that moronic.” 

The reference seemed so obvious that it had to be intentional because, as you say, you’re not stupid…

“No. Listen to me. Why the fuck…? I’m a songwriter. I’ve written loads of music. Why would I try to put out a song and think I’m getting one over on everybody? That’s retarded. What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about. I will look you in your eyes and tell you that I am not dumb enough or moronic enough to think that you are dumb enough or moronic enough not to see that I would have stolen a melody. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression. It’s the same one that’s been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I’m the first fucking artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn’t mean I’m a plagiarist, it means that I’m fucking smart. Sorry.”

The criticism did seem to take the wind out of the song’s sails.

“There’s a lot of people who want to see me fail. The minute they see something to shoot at, they shoot, and the bigger I become the bigger target I am. Nobody in this room at any point looked around and said ‘Oh my God, it’s ‘Express Yourself’. ‘ Not once. Listen. I swear to you. I can only be honest with you about it.”

What will people say about ‘Judas’?

“I dunno… I think they will really love it. (Starting to well up) I just don’t want my fans… I don’t know. This is exhausting. I just don’t wanna perpetuate that shit. I’m sure you want to address it but it’s just so ridiculous. I was just fucking shellshocked by it. It’s so funny to hear you say, ‘It must have been a homage’, I’m like, NO. When I homage, I fucking homage with a big sign saying I’ve done it. Why would I not do that now? (Sighs) I just like… I just have to say… (Starts crying) I feel like honestly that God sent me those lyrics and that melody. When you feel a message to give to the world and people are shooting arrows at it… there’s no way for something that pure to be wrong. (Reaches for Marilyn Monroe lighter) I need a cigarette.”

Listen for yourself.  Someone took the liberty of taking the instrumental from 'Express Yourself' and mashing it up with the vocals of 'Born This Way'.  The results speak for themselves.



While we're on the subject of 'Born This Way',  has anyone seen the album artwork yet?  For those of you that haven't seen it, let me just say in advance:  THIS IS NOT A JOKE.  This is the real album cover that will be on her new, highly anticipated (perhaps not now) album, that will be released on May 23rd.

Yes, that is Lady Gaga as a motorcycle.  I don't know if the song was supposed to be 'Born To Be Wild This Way', or what her inspiration or muse was in this instance, but clearly she has finally gone off the deep end.  Again, this isn't a gag.  She released it via her own Twitter account, and has confirmed that it is indeed the approved artwork for the album.  Something tells me that she will see a very small amount of physical album sales, and quite a bit of downloads from ITunes.  Even as a die hard Gaga fan, I wouldn't be caught dead walking up to a register at Best Buy with this in my hands.  Who wants to bet that this album gets the shit downloaded out of it illegally?

So, her second full length album hasn't even dropped yet, and it seems like the clock is already ticking.  She's making the same mistake as MC Hammer did in the 90s.  She's no longer an artist, she's a brand.  It's only a matter of time before her stock value starts to plummet.

Happy Birthday, Lady Gaga

How could I not let the day go by without wishing Gaga a Happy 25th?  Having such a prolific career in such a short amount of time, she'll be remembered as one of the most poignant and controversial artists of all time.  In just three years, Gaga has not only become an identity, but a brand.

Having accomplished much more by the age of 25 than Madonna could have ever imagined, (Madonna had only released her first album a month before her 25th birthday) Lady Gaga has already gone on to win 5 Grammys, 18 MTV Awards, and countless Billboard awards.  Not to mention, as of August 2010, selling 51 million singles, and over 15 million albums.

She is also one of the most unselfish people in the music industry, becoming one very creative philanthropist.  Just within the last 18 months, she has had a hand in raising over $160 million for AIDS research, raising money for PETA, and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the earthquakes in Haiti and Japan.  She's a vocal, very vocal, advocate for LGBT rights, and, some may say, has done more for the cause than many politicians in Washington.

'Born This Way' has really grown on me over the last couple of weeks, but the video has this 3 minute intro that is just to strange, even for my tastes.  Instead, I'm going to play my favorite Gaga video to date, 'Bad Romance'.  In my opinion, it's the perfect dance song.  You can't get any better.  Enjoy, and Happy Birthday, Gaga.

Lady Gaga Premieres 'Government Hooker' At Mugler Show

Lady Gaga has padded her resume' quite a bit over the last couple of years.  Grammy Award winning singer, activist, philanthropist.  As of yesterday, you can add runway model to the list.  The "mother monster" herself walked the catwalk at Thierry Mugler's Paris women's collection.

The catwalk layout was impressive, to say the least, featuring an immense network of gothic wooden archways.  The models criss crossed each other, back and forth, as they made their way toward those in attendance.  The soundtrack was provided by Gaga, featuring a new track entitled 'Government Hooker', reportedly recorded specifically for the event.  It was then followed by a remix of 'Born This Way'.  Toward the end of the show, even "Zombie Boy", Rick Genest made an appearance on the catwalk.



In the last few weeks, one thing has become abundantly clear in the fashion industry:  Thierry Mugler and designer Nicola Formichetti know how to put on one hell of a show.

Who Is Lady Gaga's New Tattooed Muse?

Who is this man?

That is a question that has been floating around the internet for the last six weeks.  He first achieved notoriety when he was featured in Gaga's remix video for 'Scheiße', in collaboration with Thierry Mugler's recent men's fashion show (in which he was also a featured model).  As many of us of seen the video for 'Born This Way', he's prominently featured in what may possibly be the most popular video of the year, if not, the era.  Not only has this individual become an obvious muse for both Gaga and Mugler, but at the moment, he is the most in demand and most talked about male model in the fashion industry.  Who is he.

His name is Rick Genest.  The tattoo/body modification world knows him as "Zombie Boy".  He has actually been somewhat of a celebrity within body mod circles for the last five or six years, garnering press in practically every tattoo magazine and body modification blog on earth.  By many, he is considered the most tattooed man on the planet.

He keeps his personal information pretty close to the chest.  Though many articles and interviews have been written in the last 5 years on Rick, chronicling the progress of his artwork, not much has been written about Rick himself.  Numerous pieces are quoted to call him "twenty something", although at this time, he looks like he could pass for 30.  Earlier articles refer to him as "Rick from Montreal", but nothing is said about where he hails from currently.  He is an enigma.  Perhaps that is how he prefers it.  To think that someone that so obviously stands out can have such a personal life.  This is one of the only pictures know to exist of Rick Genest before his amazing transformation.  He is the gentleman on the left.

The tattoo world really started to take notice of Rick in the later part of 2006.  His artist at the time, Frank, at Derm FX Tattoo, in Montreal, submitted a couple photos of Mr. Genest to BME, a body modification blog and e-zine.  They immediately posted a piece about what they saw:

"Damn!!!! I really think this is the most intense facial tattoo I’ve ever seen in terms of radically transforming a person’s interaction with the rest of the world… and speaking as someone with a facial tattoo, I definitely feel like this is going to be a shock to his system. Very, very intense; I’m seriously impressed at the size of his FTW balls… Turning your face into a death mask is, just… wow…"

At the time, I don't think BME, or the rest of the world for that matter, understood the extent of the journey that Rick had in mind.  This was going to become more than just a facial tattoo.  This was a transformation.  He was becoming a new identity; an evolved form of the modern man.  By June 2008, it was reported that he had spent nearly $4,100 dollars Canadian on tattoos and over 24 hours in the artists chair.

Since then, it is apparent that he has still had extensive artwork done to complete the vision of himself.  I read in an interview that was done with Bizarre Magazine in 2008, that his mom cried when he first received tattoos on the tops of his hands.  She was afraid that he would never be able to find a job.  He is currently the most recognizable male fashion model on earth, and likely to be sign a multi-million dollar modeling contract by year's end.

 Rick Genest is truly one of the most unique and most beautiful men I have ever had the privilege of seeing in my 35 years of life.  He is an outstanding example that "different" can be extraordinary, and that, what one perceives as "ugly", others can see as sublime.  Every time I see a photo of him, I have to stop to take him in. He is more than human at this point.  He has become a piece of art.  He is a combination of everything that makes him grotesque, resplendent, shocking, poetic, and grand.  He is Rick Genest.

Lady Gaga Releases 'Born This Way' Music Video

Clocking in at a full seven minutes and twenty seconds, the video for Gaga's 'Born This Way' can only be described as "epic".  The opening graphic starts off with a pink triangle and a unicorn (I'm assuming to symbolize the gay community).  Then, there is a two minute introduction/narrative explaining the origins of good and evil.  It really doesn't make any sense, and could have honestly been left out of the video.

The rest of the video is the standard Lady Gaga type of video.  It's pretty good.  It features that really tatted up male model from the Thierry Mugler 'Scheiße' video that Gaga did about a month back.  The guy is tattooed like a skeleton from head to toe.  He's really freaky looking, but hot at the same time.

The only thing I didn't get, or didn't want to get, was the "egg" thing.  The "good" half of Gaga is laying eggs throughout the video.  It reminded me of the Alien Queen in the Alien movies.  I didn't have to see that.  On the lighter side, there are some videos where Lady Gaga is dressed up in elaborate costumes, like 'Telephone', or 'Alejandro', the video looks more "artistic" than "sexy".  Then there are videos like 'Bad Romance", where she comes across as sexy as hell.  Well, 'Born This Way' is a sexy video.

Lady Gaga Finally Releases 'Born This Way'

After almost of year of press surrounding it, along with endless self promotion on the part of Gaga herself, we finally get to hear the "gay anthem of the decade" this morning.  'Born This Way' was released on Lady Gaga's site at 6am PST today to the delight of millions worldwide.  Have a listen:



Speaking for myself, I'm somewhat disappointed.  It doesn't live up to the hype.  It sounds like it's heavily influenced by, if not a ripoff of, Madonna's 1989 song 'Express Yourself'.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Gaga fan, but this one just doesn't do it for me.  Maybe it will grow on me.  I don't know.  But as it stands right now, I'm not looking forward to hearing this on the radio every 10 minutes for the next six months.

Gaga Joins Plastic Ono Band For Lennon's 70th

It all started with the Tweet: "WE ARE PLASTIC ONO"

Over the weekend, she joined Sean Lennon, along with members of Sonic Youth, Iggy Pop's band and RZA at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, for a performance of the Plastic Ono Band.  The performance was one of many over the weekend to commemorate what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday on October 9th.  Here's some video...

Flight Attendants Go Gaga

Funny video coming from the Phillippines.  I don't know what the deal is with all of these Philipino related stories lately.  Anyway, the flight attendants for Cebu Pacific, a low cost Philipino airline, have decided to make their safety demonstration a little more interesting.  I love the choreography.

Gaga Fans Rally To Repeal DADT

On Sunday's VMAs, Lady Gaga urged her fans to call Harry Reid and their local Senators to demand the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell.  Many people acted, but one group in particular has received some attention.  Two college students filmed themselves calling Mike Bennet, their local Senator from Colorado.  These two young ladies had to first find out who their Senator was. Once the call was made, they enlisted the help of the rest of their college dorm to call as well.  The Senator's voicemail was full the next morning.  Here is the clip they posted on Youtube yesterday:



Senator Bennet posted his own response video this afternoon.  In it he affirms that he IS for the repeal of DADT.



I'm sure the Senator had already made up his mind regarding the vote, but it's nice to see young people that wouldn't normally get involved politically lend their voice to the democratic process.

Is Lady Gaga THE Voice Of The Gay Community?

When it comes to pop culture, it seems so....   Last night at the VMA's, Gaga brought four former servicemen discharged under DADT as her dates.  Later that night, she called for the repeal of DADT during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, saying "It is a law that violates so much of what we stand [for] as a generation, as free people, as America.”  This morning Harry Reid says he's going to include the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell in a defense legislation he will introduce next week.  Coincidence?  Probably, but you have to admit that Gaga has America talking about it today.  She has spoken at numerous rallies, and makes gay rights a centerpiece of each and every one of her concerts, but is she THE gay rights champion of our time?

I encourage you to participate in a new online GLAAD poll. It asks: Who is the reigning heavyweight champion of LGBT advocacy in pop culture today?  At the moment, Lady Gaga has over 70% of the vote, over other celebs Kathy Griffin, Margaret Cho, and Dustin Lance Black.
