Balloon Hats For Charity?

Addi Somekh and Charlie Eckert have devised the most ridiculous humanitarian effort known to man.  They have been traveling around the world for the last three years, making balloon hats for people.  You read that correctly.  Balloon hats.  They have made nine trips, visiting a total of 34 countries since 2008.  Their mission?
"Addi Somekh and Charlie Eckert travel to different places in the world in order to make balloon hats for people and take photos of them.
The goal is to show people all over the world laughing and having fun, and to emphasize the fact that all human beings are born with the ability to experience joy."
Here are a couple of photos of folks "experiencing joy":

"For fuck's sake, get this thing off of my head.  Couldn't you have just brought us some food?"
These children appear to be so much happier bathing in their own feces, now that they're wearing balloon hats:

"Who needs clean drinking water, when you have balloon hats?  We're experiencing joy!"

This is how rich douchebags help the world - by spending thousands upon thousands of dollars making balloon animals for starving people, with no access to medicine or safe drinking water, and taking pictures of them.  Think of what they could have done with that money.  If they would have simply sat on their asses, played video games, and made a donation to Doctors Without Borders or the International Red Cross, they would have accomplished so much more than what they actually have with their lives.

And to make matters worse?  They're accepting donations to continue their "work".  Not only that, but Addi has turned this project into a motivational speaking business.  His client list has included Oprah, Disney and Wired magazine.  Are you fucking kidding me?  This guy mocks people in need, and he becomes a motivational speaker?

I'm not linking to their website, because I'm disgusted by what they do.  I am going to post one of their videos, though.  It shows their broken (in my opinion) philosophy, as well as a number of the photos they have taken over the last couple of years.  At the end of the video, it shows a link to their page if you're interested.

Fox News Does The Impossible - Double Headdesk In 12 Hours

There are times when, as a network, Fox News creates more newsworthy stories themselves than the politicians they cover.  A study came out in December of 2010, showing that, out of all cable news networks, their viewers were the most "misinformed".  And by the looks of things, the network is doing nothing but encouraging it.  Between the hours of 8pm EST Monday and 8am EST Tuesday, they completed the unheard of Double Headdesk.  For those of you that don't know what a headdesk is, let me give you a visual example:

On Monday night, Fox News gathered a focus group of Republican voters in Iowa to discuss their thoughts on Bill O'Reilly's interview with the President the day before.  At one point in the discussion, a woman in the focus group says that she believes that the President's "religious beliefs govern his foreign policy".  When asked on what she feels his religious beliefs are, she says "Muslim".  Watch how the commentator responds:

The Fox News representative never stepped in and said, "He's Christian".  He never tried to correct them.  He aided in spreading what has amounted to a conspiracy theory on national television.  Headdesk.

Then this morning, Fox News put an online poll on their website concerning abortion.  The poll has since been taken off the site, but I was able to get a copy of it from another blog:

What's wrong with this poll?  If I select not sure, I'm pro-life.  If I select yes, I'm pro-life.  And, if I select no, I am still pro-life.  There are absolutely no pro-choice options on a poll about banning abortion.    You might as well just have one question on the poll.  Headdesk.

I wanted to add this additional video.  It's not a headdesk moment, because it should have been expected.  During O'Reilly's interview with Mr. Obama, he interrupted the President 48 times.  48 times!  Sure, you come to expect this when you are watching his show on Fox News and he has an invited guest, but this is the President of the United States.  How disrespectful.  Talk about an asshole.

Looks like Fox News is having one hell of a February.

Congressional Teabaggers Proposing Elimination Of Federal Arts Funding

A group of Tea Party backed conservatives, called the Republican Study Committee, revealed a plan Thursday to cut the Federal funding for the arts down to zero. The group, led by Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, introduced the Spending Reduction Act of 2011. In it, the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities would be entirely cut off, "saving" approximately $167.5 million a year. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting would likely also be axed, "saving an additional $445 million annually. The proposal would be expected to reduce federal spending by $2.5 trillion dollars over the next decade.

Currently, the Federal investment helps employ 5.7 people nationwide.

Dating Site Drops 5000 "Fatties" After Holidays

As further proof that the good looking ones are usually assholes, the dating site beautifulpeople.com dropped over 5000 of it's paying members yesterday after noticing they've added some holiday weight in their profile pictures. The majority of those that were dropped were from the U.S., Canada and Britain.

The move was reportedly prompted by other members of the site, who actually have a say as to whether perspective members are attractive enough to be allowed access onto the dating and social networking website.

When asked for comment, Robert Hintze, site founder said, (I'm not making this up)"Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded."

Maybe I should start a site called beautifulfatties.com.
