Few people have seen the music video for Death Cab For Cutie's single 'I Will Follow You Into the Dark'. Even fewer have seen the original, alternate video for the track. It is one of my personal favorites, and I thought I would share.
The video, using a storybook, tells a tale of companionship, love and loss, using two rabbits as primary characters. It's very touching, and adds a level of emotion to the song that most music videos cannot match these days. I hope you enjoy it.
As if child beauty pageants aren't controversial enough, already. TLC has released a promotional clip for an upcoming episode of 'Toddlers and Tiaras'. In it, Paisley comes out dressed up as her favorite actress, Julia Roberts. Take a look.
PARENTING FAIL!!
Paisley's mother spoke to TMZ today, trying to defend herself. She says that due to creative editing on the part of TLC, she's made to look like a bad mom. Paisley had another outfit that day: the dress that Julia Roberts wore at the end of 'Pretty Woman'. See?
No harm, no foul. She's "a modern day Cinderella". She says,"I'm raising my child just as well as any mother does ... I take my kid to church every week ... at least I'm not forcing them into sports and getting my child injured like some parents."
Maybe not physical injuries, but that kid is going to have a mountain of therapy bills. Is she really so blind that she doesn't realize that she dressed her 3 year old up like a hooker on national television?
Yes, it looks real. But, upon closer examination, it appears to be one sick joke. As Joystiq noted, neither XBox or PS3 would release a video game with an AO (Adults Only) rating. Also, the ESRB (Entertainment Software Ratings Board) has no release information for an upcoming title by the name of 'Slavery'.
Javelin Reds, the proposed developer of the game, doesn't exist. But, as one commenter noted, "javelin reds" is an anagram of "de slavernij", which is slavery in Dutch. The phone number associated with the developer goes to a voice mail at a Kentucky area phone number. What is the story behind 'Slavery'?
Update: Maybe I spoke too soon. I noticed something odd when I embedded the video into the post. The title of the video had changed. I went to the video game's website, and, sure enough it was fake. It turns out, the video is part of a viral advertising campaign. The key was in the anagram of "Javelin Reds". Dutch broadcaster NTR is broadcasting a series called 'De Slavernij', which is a documentary about the history of slavery and how it still exists in some parts of the world. It debuts on September 18th. Very clever campaign.
In what can be characterized as the most insensitive and transphobic online article in recent months, Fox News is advising their viewers not to let their children watch the new season of 'Dancing With the Stars'. Why? Solely due to the presence of Chaz Bono.
Throughout much of the article, Ablow refers to Bono as a "woman" and uses the pronoun "she". Saying that 'Dancing With the Stars' is nothing more than part of Bono's transsexual "victory tour", is the last thing impressionable growing young people need to see:
"The last thing vulnerable children and adolescents need, as they wrestle with the normal process of establishing their identities, is to watch a captive crowd in a studio audience applaud on cue for someone whose search for an identity culminated with the removal of her breasts, the injection of steroids and, perhaps one day soon, the fashioning of a make-shift phallus to replace her vagina.
It is a toxic and unnecessary byproduct of the tragic celebration of transgender surgery that millions of young people who do watch "Dancing with the Stars" will have to ponder this question: Maybe my problems really stem from the fact that I’m a girl inside a boy’s body (or a boy inside a girls body). Maybe I’m not a tomboy; I’m just a boy! Maybe I’m not just being bullied because I’m a sensitive, reflective young man interested in flowers, not football. Maybe I’m not just uncertain about my sexuality. Maybe I’m a girl! Maybe all this angst and suffering I’m feeling as I emerge into puberty and pass through it isn’t just because I’m changing, but because I should change completely—and have my breasts removed or my penis amputated!"
As a psychiatrist, Dr. Ablow should be aware of gender identity disorder, which is the primary reason that someone becomes transgendered later in life. It is generally a life long condition, presenting itself early on in life. It's not like a teenage girl would watch someone on television and say, "Hey, I like working on cars. Maybe I need a penis." Or perhaps a teenage boy is watching TV and says, "I don't like football. Guess I should cut off my junk." When it comes to the "If your friend jumps off of a bridge" analogy, it doesn't work too well when your talking about private parts.
Ablow then goes on to assert that Bono "should not be applauded for asserting she is a man (and goes about trying to look like one) any more than a woman who believes she will be happier without arms, has them removed and then continues to assert that she was right all along—her self-concept was that of a double amputee". He then asks that if your child came to you and said that they would only feel complete if their legs were cut off, would you make a beeline for the plastic surgeon, or get your child the psychological help they desperately need.
What Ablow isn't telling his readers is the process that transgendered people must go through before undergoing sexual reassignment surgery. At this point, Chaz Bono has not undergone surgery. He has not stated whether or not he will do so. Within the United States, before a plastic surgeon will agree to complete the procedure, they require a written recommendation from the patient's psychiatrist (and, often times, therapist). To receive a recommendation, the patient is required to be under the care of the psychiatrist for a minimum of two years and to have lived as their new gender for that time, prior to surgery. This isn't a spur-of-the-moment decision. Ablow knows this, so why is he acting like your 16 year old kid can make an appointment to get a sex change next Tuesday?
I don't buy it. Even Fox's own correspondents don't buy it. Still, Ablow insists Bono "is not a man!"
When you go out for a night on the town, you're often mindful of the dangers of drinking and driving. But, have you considered the dangers of super gluing a tiny hat onto your head?
***Warning: The following video may be NSFW (only because you'll be laughing so hard, you'll interrupt your coworkers).***
I can't believe he agreed to be filmed for television.
Waterloo, Iowa, is the hometown of both Michele Bachmann and serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Artist Dan Lacey has the above prints available on his Ebay page for $20.00 each. While it's the scariest damn thing I've seen all day, artistically, it's quite good.
While somewhat interesting in theory, CLOO is a new app that is destined to end with someone strangled in their bathroom.
Yes. THIS IS REAL. The developers of this app expect you to open up your apartment to a complete stranger, and let them take a shit in your bathroom. "Oh, you know Sally too? Come on in. Drop a deuce."
Are you fucking kidding me?!?
In six months, CLOO will not be known as an innovative social experiment, but synonymous with "dead hookers". New York City will soon have a "CLOO Ciller" (They'll change the K in killer to a C to make it look better in the headlines.)
Did you know that many hotel safes have "default passwords" in place, so that hotel employees can open the safe in the event you forget your password? You may not want to store your valuables in your hotel room after watching this video.
25 years ago, Glenn Beck was part of the morning show on Y95, here in Phoenix. I used to listen to him as a kid in the mornings. After seeing this ad, you'll understand why I never believe a word that the man says, and why 95.5 has been a "smooth jazz" station since 1988.
Interesting fact: The chimpanzee in the commercial...Ann Coulter.
Note: This post has quite a few links. This is one of those "hard to believe" stories, so I have done a lot of research to corroborate what I am writing about. Pretty crazy stuff (even for me).
Well, there's a first time for everything, I guess. Atlanta area Pentecostal televangelist, and self-proclaimed "prophetess", Juanita Bynum has made news in religious circles lately. Not for something she has said, but rather for something she has typed. On Saturday, August 17th, Bynum was on her Facebook page, praying on behalf of Zachery Tims, head of a Florida megachurch and fellow televangelist, who was found dead on August 12th in a Times Square hotel room. There is speculation that he died of a drug overdose. Due to the allegations surrounding his death, Tims will not be recognized at this week's National Baptist Convention.
The questionable status updates started at 6:58PM:
I don't listen to Glenn Beck's radio show. I only hear about it second hand. So, it's usually when he only says something incredibly stupid that I get wind of it. Last Tuesday was one of those times.
On his August 30 radio show, Beck was reflecting on his travels while on his "Restoring Courage" rally in Israel. While doing so, he said he felt "ridiculously stupid" using the term "African American" when referring to black people when in Africa, South America, Europe and in Jerusalem. He asked his co-host, Pat Gray, "Now how can people be one thing in one country, and nowhere else in the world?" (Because they're not American, dumbass.)
He went on to specifically cite South Africa as an example of how it should be, perhaps, saying, "In South Africa, it's black and colored. And, it's not a bad thing." It appears to me that Beck has forgotten about a little thing in South Africa called Apartheid. Until April 1994, "colored" South Africans didn't have the right to vote. Many were not even considered legal citizens of the country. The civil rights movement there was much different than that of the U.S. in the mid-60s. There were no picket signs and fire hoses. Millions of people were cast out to shanty towns, while South Africa's whites lived in luxury. Those that protested were often killed. I'm sure if the black population in South Africa could think of an alternate label to affix to themselves, after the history their people in the last century, they would probably create one.
He then attacked the nation's African American population, insinuating that they weren't "proud to be an American" by not referring to themselves as "black" or "colored". How dare he! If any ethnicity in this nation has the right to label themselves, it would be the one who was forced to immigrate to this country. The one that was sold and bred like cattle. The people that, as a group, were not allowed to eat in a restaurant, go to a theater or have any say in the political arena until 46 years ago. Oh, but they're not proud to be Americans. They're more American than you'll ever be, Glenn Beck. Audio of the broadcast is below.
A late entry for the night, but I had to include it.
Norwegian Recycling has released a new mashup, and it's really quite good. While I'm familiar with most of the artists on this track, I'm not keen on most of the songs. The foundation of the tune comes from Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing'. Along the way, you'll find snippits of Britney Spears, Shakira, Robyn and Bruno Mars. The track list is as follows:
1. Journey - Dont Stop Believin'
2. Shakira - Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)
3. Brintey Spears - Till the World Ends
4. Robyn - Dancing On My Own
5. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are
6. Tim Berg - Seek Bromance

I haven't been writing as often as I would like to lately. Trying to catch up on some lost time. Please forgive me.
I'm an anarchist and an atheist. My political views are too far left to even be considered Democrat. I believe that marriage and health care are fundamental human rights. And don't get me started on people calling themselves "pro-life", and denying education and food stamps to children.
